The R&D department plans the sustainable product and technology road map for Europe and works on developing advanced, full electric vehicles series, which fulfill current and future European private transportation market needs. By cooperating with European leading suppliers, the R&D department continuously upgrades design and engineering abilities for excellent product performance and quality.
As R&D Engineer, you will do research, analysis and evaluation of E-mobility products, user experience and usability of both passenger cars and commercial vehicles. You will use these research insights for the product development and iteration, working closely together with product, design and engineering teams.
**Position Overview :
As a Vehicle Performance Engineer, you will focus on optimising the overall performance of BYD’s new energy vehicles, particularly in power delivery, efficiency and driving experience. You will define and refine performance targets based on European market needs and lead performance tuning efforts to enhance power, economy and overall drivability.
The role includes conducting market research and benchmarking, resolving performance-related after-sales issues, and providing technical support for media and industry reviews. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement and ensure BYD’s products meet the expectations of European customers.
**Your main responsibility is:
- Vehicle Performance Optimisation: Analyse European user demands, driving conditions and competitor data to establish precise performance targets for new models and update development standards.
- Performance Improvement Planning: Propose and validate performance upgrade solutions at the vehicle level, ensuring successful implementation in new model development.
- Performance Research: Conduct market studies and competitor testing in Europe. Gather and analyse feedback to identify optimisation opportunities and inform design improvement.
- After-sales Performance Issue Resolution: Diagnose and resolve vehicle performance issues in the after-sales phase, providing effective technical support and solutions.
- Technical Support for Media Reviews: Offer technical expertise during automotive media and industry tests to ensure vehicles achieve target performance levels.
- Cross-department Collaboration: Work collaboratively with product design, R&D and production teams to ensure design and manufacturing meet defined performance requirements.
- Trend Monitoring and Innovation: Track global and European trends in vehicle performance optimisation and emerging technologies to guide innovation in vehicle performance design.
**Your personal information:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or above in Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related disciplines.
- Experience: Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in vehicle performance development, powertrain design, or related automotive fields, with proven capability in vehicle performance optimisation, power systems or fuel efficiency.
- Performance Research Experience: Strong background in performance research, competitor analysis, market feedback and data-driven optimisation decision-making.
- Location: Based in Budapest, Hungary; candidates able to work long-term in Hungary are preferred.
Skills:
- Solid knowledge of vehicle dynamics, powertrain systems and performance tuning.
- Proficiency in vehicle testing and performance analysis tools, with strong data interpretation capability.
- Experience in resolving after-sales performance issues and providing prompt technical solutions.
Valid driving licence with independent driving and testing capability.
Communication and Collaboration: Excellent English communication skills and ability to work effectively within cross-cultural teams; Mandarin proficiency is a plus.
